Pretty much. Calibration is weird, if you notice that you're not really getting full extension one way or the other, the calibration will help reset the zero.

Is it already in the box and you just use the app to calibrate once you take it off then calibrate and put it back on?

There is a calibration command, yes.

Does this thing calibrate new actuators? I'm very new to these turbos so you will have to work with me  :D

v1.0 - v1.1 / CAN commands to a new HE351 actuator?
« Last post by JasonG on June 12, 2018, 05:59:05 PM »
I am trying to pass commands to a new HE351VE actuator. Cummins part # is 4034315HX. I am having zero luck so far. This actuator has a plug on the unit with a pigtail connection. My old actuator did not and I had no trouble passing commands to it. Curious if I needed to change the address from 0x0CFFC600?

I will leave that function out then. It sounded useful in theory, but if it won’t work in practice then I won’t worry about it.

12awg is fine, the actuator uses around 10A max.

I wouldn't be too concerned with an EGT failsafe since you cannot control fuel with the turbo, and opening it up more will probably just reduce compressor flow and make the situation worse. Definitely something worth monitoring just not something to integrate into the controller :)

What gauge wire do you recommend for actuator 12v supply and the ground?

I'm working on integrating boost pressure and EGT sensors, but only for display purposes right now. In the future I may let them influence commanded vane position, but only as a failsafe for overboost or excessive EGT conditions. Main vane control will still be a function of turbine shaft speed.

I think I found a pretty good LCD library, it may be the same one you mentioned. The issue was message send/receive timing between processors. I had to add a 25 ms delay between CAN writes for the LCD processor to grab each message and update accordingly. And rather than have a separate routine for LCD writes, I put them directly into the Switch Case for sorting the messages to the corresponding fourbyte.
