I was watching a video from banshee controllers on utube. He was saying unless your interested in the exhaust brake function of the Vgt, their was no point going thru the hassle of the Vgt and just run a cw version. Any thoughts on that comment?
I think he needs to install my controller.
I sure wouldn't trade mine for a CW... better mileage, better response, etc.. what's not to like? Yes, it does add some complexity and wiring, but I quite enjoy working with it.
How did you mount your turbo? Did you have interference with shock tower?
I used the stock 6.7 manifold and it fit fine..
I just bolted my to the flange converter on my 2nd gen. The cartirage is not perfectly vertical, but it is within the Holset 30* spec. Good enough for Holset, good enough for me.
The VGT is well worth the extra setup. EB is one great feature, but the list goes on and on. Biggest thing is you can control top end turbine speed unlike the cw.
So you used the adapter you can buy on eBay?
Yep
Yup
I have been doing some pricing on these turbos, they seem to be quite expensive. What's a fair price to pay?
I paid about 400 for mine on Cummins Forum. Guy said it had ~5000 miles on it.
My buddy just picked one up for 275 shipped, lol such deal, many savings, wow
I paid $400 cdn with manifold... saw a NEW one for $1000
watch ebay Ive picked up 3 he351ve and a he5??ve all under $300 each shipped.
Are their any common problems I should be aware off? Electronics pretty solid? Also is their a difference in years or are all 351ve created equal?
Pretty sure most are created equal, at least the ones off Cummins :)
As long as you run my code or me785's you won't blow up a controller. The original arduino code that was produced wasn't fully thought out, and updated the controller way too often. One unit blew upers.
I have scrounged up some money, so I'm on the hunt for a turbo. Just wasn't sure if their was problem areas. Sounds like their pretty solid
I don't know of any differences that would cause incompatibilities.. On mine it seems the wire colors were different, but pinout was the same.. Mine seems to have a longer 'timeout' when comms drop (80ms) than others (10ms or less I think?) I think if you wire things right, put a fuse in it, they're pretty robust... Some people don't use the water jacket, but I think especially on a tow rig or long duty machine it's essential.. it's a little more plumbing but once it's in it's there.
We think the ford turbo's canbus speed is different.
