Alright so i got this far... (see attached photo) can someone help me understand how that little guy (IC2) attaches to the shield? Sorry if theres a a thread that covered this already, couldnt find one.

Solder the max to the adapter board.

Put the pins on the board add the board in top solder both together.

Pin 1 should be labeled on both

Your D1 looks backwards.
